Where it comes from
Egypt and Mesopotamia were already interpreting dreams four thousand years ago. The Pharaoh consulted Joseph in Genesis. Artemidorus of Daldis wrote the Oneirocritica in the 2nd century. But the modern reading of dreams owes almost everything to Freud (The Interpretation of Dreams, 1900) and, above all, to Carl Jung, who saw in them the voice of the collective unconscious speaking in archetypes.
